In 1995 Rahul Mehrotra founded and has since been a principal of The Bombay Collaborative (TBC), a conservation architecture practice. The Bombay Collaborative (TBC) works with historic buildings in Mumbai and has served as a consultant to organizations such as the Bombay Environmental Action Group, INTACH, The World Monument Fund (New York), The Orient Foundation, (Portugal), Arch Foundation, (Austria) and various neighborhood and citizens groups in Mumbai.
