Street In The Attic

This project was commissioned by the Catholic Relief Services for a 5000 sq.ft office in the attic, of a historic building under a spectacular timber gabled roof. The high ceiling made air-conditioning unfeasible, so the functions are broken into smaller volumes – units with low false ceilings. Using the elevator landing as the point of arrival, the circulation space becomes a virtual street under the amazing attic roof.

The components for the office, are laid out in a manner that allows each department their independence, yet interconnected with others through the non air-conditioned space. The central `walk’, open to the attic roof, links these areas to the Director’s office and the Conference Rooms. More importantly, when moving within this office space, one is constantly aware of the old structure within which it sits.
