The house is organized around two large verandah-like spaces flanking a large courtyard. In addition to the central courtyard, a series of smaller service courts are attached to the kitchen and toilets to act as light shafts, creating a sense of spaciousness in the otherwise compact living spaces.
A series of parallel load-bearing walls in basalt stone are used to structure the house in plan. The main pavilions are covered with galvanized iron sheets, while flat slabs cover the service areas – facilitating easy access to maintain the sloping roofs. In addition, the flat slabs act as large gutters collecting the rainwater, which is then trained to the coconut grove adjoining the house and to re-charge the wells on the property.
