In the design of this 2000 sq.ft Bandhej Shop in Bangalore, the concept was to create the feeling of a large space yet screened off in sections to define particular products within the shop. A series of loosely placed screens define the different sections of the shop while allowing the entire depth of the space to be perceived. The screens are positioned in a manner that the entrance points to each section are staggered thereby setting up a meandering path through the shop which opens up shifting vistas – both within the shop as well as looking out towards the exterior. Furthermore, the juxtaposing of materials such as a cement for the floor and GI sheets with frosted glass for the partitions and a sparing use of minimal stainless steel components are made to exert a special presence.
