The retrofitting of the old LD Arts building on the Ahmedabad University campus to accommodate the new Institute of Management (Amrut Mody School of Management) was both a conservation as well as adaptive reuse project. This building designed originally in 1948 by the Ahmedabad based architect Atmaram Gajjar was one of many buildings he designed on the Gujarat University campus
including other institutions, hostels and campus facilities. The design approach was to keep the architectural illusion as well as the integration of the existing fabric as intact as possible. In order to do this, the public spaces ranging from the entrance foyer, grand staircase as well as verandah and corridors were restored to reinforce the robustness of design as well as the aesthetic elements of these spaces
